Before you start working with WEP students, the following steps need to take place as part of the WEP-USA field staff hiring & training process:
  • Submission and processing of your Local Support Counselor Application.
  • Submission and approval of your Criminal Background Check (CBC): you will be presented with the CBC disclaimer before you click the 'Submit' button on your WEP Support Counselor application and will receive an email with a link to the designated CBC website to complete your secure CBC submission.
  • Reference check conducted by the National Office Staff.
  • Phone interview conducted by the National Office staff.
  • Online Support Counselor Training to ensure you are knowledgeable about your role and responsibilities, and are able to represent WEP-USA well in your community.

Permission for Background Check for WEP-USA Support Counselors

I, the undersigned, wish to be a Support Counselor with WEP-USA and consent to WEP-USA conducting a criminal background check. I hereby authorize IntelliCorp, on behalf of WEP-USA, to conduct a criminal background check.

I understand that my birth date and social security number will be used only for the purpose of conducting the background check. If the background search results in a record being found, I will be contacted by a WEP-USA staff and given an opportunity to clarify. If, after clarification, it is determined that the record is in error, the hire offer will be permitted. If the record is not an error but also not significant to the welfare of a potential student, as determined by WEP-USA, the hire offer can still be permitted: information with an explanation will be kept on file and may be disclosed to the partner offices overseas as part of the placement process.

Aside from the placement process, information from the background check will be kept in WEP-USA’s secure and confidential files and never shared with any third party or unauthorized personnel. WEP-USA is required to run a criminal background check on any adult associated with WEP student, either in hosting or supervising capacity.

I also understand that I may request a complete and accurate disclosure of the nature and scope of the background verification.
